“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

- Viktor Frankl

This space has been my guiding force in founding akoūo sessions.

HELLO AND WELCOME TO A SNIPET OF WHO I AM AND WHAT LED ME TO THIS WORK.

My relationship with myself and my body began at an early age through my classical dance training.

I learnt and felt very early on, that every time I move I can be in my truth and meet my Self in a space beyond the confinement of words, identities and the burden of having to explain who I am.

But as dreams come and go, I parked my dancing dream along the way. Fitting in became more important than doing something that others couldn’t relate to.

I lost touch with my body for several years after high school when I moved for my studies and stopped dancing. A heartbreak, and the challenges and stresses of studying abroad in a field of studies that I had no real interest in, led me to develop an eating disorder in order to cope with the difficulties of life.

My health changed and became fragile. I got used to being sick, treating the symptoms without really getting to the root cause of that repeated pattern.

In 2018, I embarked on a journey to reclaim my body and health through various modalities that supported me in creating an internal space to understand and accept myself more fully.

I was introduced to a meditation practice back in 2014, and as my practice matured, I started realizing the influence of my thoughts on my physiology, and vice versa, how the state of my body influenced my thoughts.

I became fascinated with how thinking creates feeling, and then feeling creates thinking, in a continuous cycle.

How telling the same story over and over is reinforcing it in the brain, eventually creating the reality we live in. How pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.

And that we only suffer when we become identified with our pain and those parts of ourselves that experience pain.

That not only do we experience pain (physically and emotionally), but we get so good at rehearsing that pain, that we create a whole identity around it.

And how that, in turn, creates this narrower focus and condensed sensations in our bodies holding us back from being our authentic selves.

Eventually, I became really curious in the ways, we can create and bring about change and more space in our lives.

Space between stimulus and response, space between the story we tell ourselves and our Self, space to see more choices and respond to life differently, space for all our parts to co-exist peacefully.

This self-inquiry eventually led me to different trainings and the now pillars of my work, mainly Integrative Hypnosis and Craniosacral therapy.

Both modalities allowed me to work with the realm of the unconscious. How to become conscious of our unconscious patterns and beliefs whether in our physical, emotional or mental bodies. How to become aware and reclaim parts of ourselves that we have repressed in order to become more whole.

Through my work with Hypnosis and Parts work, I became aware of all these inner parts of my psyche, their stories and beliefs they were holding onto. I learned how to identify and interrupt different thought patterns. How to lessen the charge of certain triggers and respond differently instead. How to create glitches between our automated responses so that we can choose different routes that lead to better outcomes.

And eventually, how to rehearse comfort the way we habitually rehearse pain and practice emotional states until they become neural traits.

Similarly, working with the body and Craniosacral therapy, I learnt how regulating the nervous system influences not only the body and how feel, but also how we think.

I observed how our stories are held and lodged in our bodies on a cellular level, how we are walking museums of all our experiences and imprints, and how important it becomes to find resolution and release these conditioned patterns in order for the body to function naturally.

In our sessions, I try to bring the energy of play, lightness and curiosity, but also depth and grace in this dance together. My clients describe me as being able to bring clarity to their patterns, like a curious guide leading them to find their own answers.

My goal is to guide you to do just the same. To meet yourself beyond the stories you’ve learned to tell about yourself.

I look forward to meeting you where you’d like to be met.

Love,

Stephania
